You are Invited to TK'S Korner Annual Paper Mill Tour
The tour will be of Sappi. Their Coated mill in Cloquet, MN. For those of you who are not aware, Sappi purchased Potlatch and their line consists of: McCoy, Strobe, Karma, Lustro, Vintage, Mountie, Patina, Aero, Opus, Northwest, Scout, Somerset, Belgrade, Magno
You will discover:
- The Nursery-how many different types, time to grow, etc.
- Woodroom-debarking, chipping, sorting, etc.
- How paper is made from the trees to the end product
- The difference between long & short grain fibers
- What materials are used for whiteness, brightness and gloss
- How surface finishes are achieved (silk, velvet, dull, gloss, matte)
- Types of quality controls that are in place
- Why pick one brand over another for each subject or technique
Schedule of Tour:
- 7:00am meet at Sexton Printing
- 7:30am we depart for the Mill
- 10:00am arrive at the Mill
- 10:30-3:00pm Tour-includes lunch
- 3:30pm depart for Sexton
- 5:00pm arrive back to Sexton
The tour is Friday, September 20th, 2002. This is a one-day trip and we only have limited spots open. If you have been on a tour previously, please leave spots open for those who have not.
Do to popular demand, I have added more spots. So the more the merrier. Yet, please RSVP by 9-9-02 so I may make the propper arrangements with transportation & the mill.
